IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is tough at any age; but in the glow of your golden years, you deserve to spend your time enjoying the best life has to offer, not worrying about tummy troubles.
According to a 2024 clinical review, the highest prevalence of IBS, 33%, was from age 50+. Beyond the medical reality, this often means an increase in medical costs, increase in doctor’s visits, and take up time you would rather be spending out in the big wide world, living your life.
We get it. Decades of research and clinical experience have led us to developing DivertX, Evinature’s signature formula containing naturally-sourced, third-party tested curcumin and Berberine (Coptis) to make sure that nothing, not even IBS, can hold you back. Community leaders and celebrities, like Howie Mandel, are even joining the Evinature community, and investing in their gut health to live a more fulfilled, less restricted, gut-friendly lifestyle.
What is IBS?
Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or IBS, is a cluster of gastrointestinal symptoms with no clear cause. IBS symptoms can consist of nausea, vomiting, bloating, cramps, stomach pains, and most frequently, diarrhea and constipation.
There are different types of IBS, mostly differentiated based on the type of bowel movements that are most common.
- IBS-D is the diagnosis for patients experiencing mostly diarrhea.
- IBS-C confers that patients experience constipation more commonly.
- IBS-M means that bowel movements are typically mixed.
These distinctions are important, since they help doctors and nutritionists to make suggestions on diets and lifestyle choices supporting the IBS gut. It is advised to work with a dietician if you receive a diagnosis of IBS, as it may help to reduce the occurrence of painful episodes triggered by eating the wrong foods.
Why This Matters At Age 50
It can be uncomfortable to change things around for your gut. On one hand, you’ve been doing your best to make sure you are healthy, on top of managing work, family, hobbies…. A sudden diagnosis that requires lots of management and conscious choices can even feel like an acknowledgement that things aren’t working the way they used to.

We don’t know why people suddenly develop IBS. You didn’t do anything to suddenly develop it; people can develop IBS at any stage in their life. In fact, many people live unknowingly with IBS for years before they are diagnosed!
IBS is unpleasant, but it’s also an opportunity to look critically at your foundational needs, and make sure that you are doing your utmost to take care of yourself. From managing your diet, hydration, stress management, and exercise choices, many people actually live a healthier lifestyle after diagnosis!
DivertX for IBS
DivertX is our evidence-based nutraceutical specifically intended for patients with IBS or diverticulosis. This combinatory formula contains curcumin, an extract from turmeric, and Berberine, derived from the Coptis chinensis plant. Together, these two herbs help improve gut wall integrity, regulate bowel movements, modulate stress in the body and gut, and enhance digestive uptake–all of which aid IBS patients.

Curcumin for IBS
Curcumin is an active compound in turmeric that is responsible for the anti-inflammatory potential of the plant. Curcumin, in its active form, improves gut function and digestion, while regulating bowel movements and reducing bowel urgency.
Curcumin can also improve the regulation of the brain-gut axis that controls digestion–when we are stressed, digestion occurs less efficiently. Curcumin calms this axis, reducing the impact of stress on the body through modulating the impact of chemical messengers such as cortisol and serotonin on the GI tract.
Berberine (Coptis chinensis) for IBS
Berberine is usually found as a resin, sourced from the Coptis plant (also known as Winter Cherry or Indian Ginseng). It has been used for centuries as a digestive aid to improve digestion and bowel function. Modern medicine suggests that in addition, Berberine selectively upregulates the proliferation of butyrate-producing bacteria in the large intestine.
Butyrate is a short chain fatty acid (SCFA) that upregulates digestion and improves breakdown of material at the beginning of the GI tract. This leads to better nutrient absorption for IBS patients, and improved overall health.
Evinature’s Recommendations For IBS Patients
It is important to find a gastroenterologist to consult for advice on your care. Committing to a diet, managing stress levels, and exercising regularly can regulate your condition, and getting enough sleep is essential for maintaining your gut health.
