For Alyssa, sports are more than a career—they’re a way of life.
As a college football reporter for Fox Sports, she spends her weekends on the road, covering games, traveling between cities, and living the fast-paced lifestyle of a national broadcaster. But behind the bright stadium lights and long days on the sidelines, Alyssa has been carrying an invisible battle.
“I travel the country covering college football for Fox Sports and I have two autoimmune diseases,” she shared. “It’s a chronic fight, often invisible but always present.”
A Life-Changing Diagnosis
Alyssa was first diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2021. Like many patients, she was thrown into a world of new medications, flare-ups, and an unpredictable body that no longer felt like her own. “It was a life-changing moment,” she said.
By the fall of 2024, she was back on the road covering football when a new problem hit: severe, unexplained back pain. “My highly, highly active lifestyle came to a screeching halt,” Alyssa recalled. Soon after, she was diagnosed with her second autoimmune condition, ankylosing spondylitis.
